Map Source is the Garmin tool indicated to add or update the maps in our GPS. It also serves to plan a route from our computer, find places or points of interest, transfer tracks and see the map in detail from our monitor.
MAPSOURCE is one of GARMIN's programs that allows you to create, view and edit waypoints, routes and tracks on your computer and transfer them to your GPS devices (and vice versa). Many of you probably had the same problem as I did when I tried to install the downloaded application directly from GARMIN's official website. Right after the file extraction process appears an error window says something like “you do not have an earlier version of MapSource installed ". The version available on the site is actually an update. So it only works if you already have a previous version installed on your computer.
It should be noted that it has been replaced by the modern BASECAMP. Therefore, we recommend that you install BASECAMP in its place because with it you can do everything and a little more than was done with MAPSOURCE.
1. INSTALLING MAPSOURCE ONLY
1.1. Download the latest version of MAPSOURCE directly from the Garmin website
1.2. UNLOCK the “MapSource_6163.exe " file to a folder using 7-ZIP or WINRAR
1.3. Open the “MapSource_6163 " folder that was created
1.4. Run the “MSmain " file
2. INSTALLING MAPSOURCE AND BASECAMP
2.1. Download the latest version of BASECAMP directly from the Garmin website
2.2. Install BASECAMP
2.3. Install MAPSOURCE; once you have installed BASECAMP, the installation of MAPSOURCE will occur without any error
